"A City with a Great Library is a Great City." So proclaims the home page of the Nashville Public Library website. It then follows that our city's Great Community, Bellevue, deserves a Great Library as well.
The current Bellevue Branch Library is the busiest branch by far in the entire system per square foot. A recent community survey indicates our current facility lacks adequate parking and meeting space, has a limited selection of books, reference materials, CD’s, videos, magazines & periodicals and computer terminals, all due to the inadequate size of the facility.
A short while ago, Nashville upgraded the Main downtown library and many of the other regional branches. For whatever reason, Bellevue was excluded from the expansion projects, even though it was on the original list. Bellevue is still waiting for a branch adequately sized for it's needs. In a May 2002 survey conducted by Providence Associates Inc. for the Metro Public Library, Bellevue was identified as the #1 community still lacking in adequate service.
It's time that the Nashville Metro Council and the Mayor meet the needs of the citizens of Bellevue by taking the advice of the Nashville Public Library Board of Trustees and approve funding for a new or expanded branch facility in Bellevue.
